MANILA, Philippines — Phenomenal Alaska rookie Calvin Abueva, riding on a solid performance that helped the Aces make the semifinals, is one of five candidates for the prestigious Best Player of the Conference award.

The 6-foot-1 former San Sebastian ace in the NCAA is the only rookie to make the elite list, joining Petron Blaze’s Arwind Santos, Meralco’s Sol Mercado, and Talk ‘N Text’s Ranidel de Ocampo and Jason Castro.

Abueva and Santos are the only two players to average double-doubles this conference.

Santos led the Boosters in scoring with 17.4 points a contest while grabbing an average of 12 rebounds, while Abueva tossed in an average of 14.5 points that went with 10.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks a contest for the Aces.
