NU fights off slumping UP for 7-0 start in UAAP men’s volleyball
MANILA, Philippines — National University continued to stamp its class in the 75th UAAP men’s volleyball competition — this time hacking out a hard-fought 25-23, 25-23, 25-22, win over University of the Philippines Saturday morning at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Peter Torres followed up his strong effort against University of Santo Tomas by scoring all but two of his 16 points in spikes to once again lead the Bulldogs’ balanced charge.
Three other NU players wound up in double-digit scoring to help the Bulldogs continue to their best start in men’s volleyball.
Article continues after this advertisementAn attack from Reyson Fuentes, who chipped in 14 hits, sealed the win for NU while also sending the Maroons to their sixth setback in seven starts. Jan Paglinawan and Rueben Inaudito added 10 points each.
Dominico Lucindo had 19 points, Jeffrey Lansangan had 13 and Sam Paquiz had 11 points for UP, which hung in there with the Bulldogs but could not wrap a set up to its advantage and fell to another sweep.
Torres had 15 markers in NU’s 19-25, 25-12, 29-27, 25-20, triumph over UST last Sunday.
