FEU, Ateneo top foes in UAAP men’s volleyball

MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University and Ateneo won via straight sets over separate foes Sunday in the last of the first round of eliminations of UAAP Season 75 men’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.

Reigning champion FEU fended off rival University of Santo Tomas 25-19, 25-15, 26-24 in a rematch of last season’s Finals.

Ateneo hacked out a hard-fought 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 win over University of the East.

Arvin Avila led the Tamaraws with 13 points while Ricci Gonzales also had 13 for the Blue Eagles.

The Growling Tigers blew a chance to join the Tamaraws in the standings as they stayed in third-place tie with the De La Salle Green Archers at 4-3.

FEU strengthened its hold of the second spot at 6-1, just a game behind surprise league-leader National University, which is enjoying its best start with a 7-0 record.

The Blue Eagles notched just their second win in seven starts while the Red Warriors suffered their sixth setback with only one win.
