Garvo Lanete stood out with his torrid shooting that lifted San Beda past bitter rival Letran and extended the Lions’ winning streak to four games in the 86th NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
Hardly showing any rust coming from a two-week break, Lanete drained 22 points, including three triples to power a 77-60 rout of the Knights last Wednesday.

The 21-year-old guard also grabbed five rebounds and two assists with the same number of steals for the Lions, last year’s runner-up who loom as the strongest contender to San Sebastian’s reign.
San Beda seized double-digit leads early, before the Knights threatened late in the third quarter by trimming the Lions’ lead to 10.
That’s when Lanete stepped up the plate, pouring eight points in a telling 14-0 run that sealed the outcome early.
Lanete edged rookie transferee Rocky Acidre of Arellano U Chiefs, Raycon Kabigting of Jose Rizal U and San Sebastian’s Calvin Abueva for the weekly citation.
