HK booters crush Pinoys

The Philippines absorbed a 2-4 loss to Hong Kong’s Asian Games-bound squad Saturday in the Long Teng Cup at the Kaohsiung National Stadium in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
 
Returning from injury, substitute Phil Younghusband, a former reserve at Chelsea FC, scored two goals for the Filipinos, who rallied to tie the match only to give up two more goals in the second half.
 
The game was supposed to be played last Friday but organizers were forced to stop the match in the 14th minute after heavy rains rendered the field unplayable.
 
The RP booters were to play host Taiwan late yesterday. The two teams played to a goalless draw last January in the Interport Cup.
 
The Taiwanese ripped Macau, 7-1, in their first game last Saturday.
 

The national team under English coach Simon McMenemy is using the four-nation tournament to prepare for the more prestigious Suzuki Cup Asean Football Championship late this month in Vientiane, Laos.
