It’s now Garcia for Letran

LETRAN’S search for a new coach took an unexpected twist yesterday with former PBA coach Caloy Garcia getting the job of leading the Knights in the NCAA next season.

Just days after former Letran coach Larry Albano had appeared headed back to the Knights’ bench, Garcia got his appointment from Letran school officials.

Sources said the United States-based Albano, the mentor who led Letran to its first three-peat feat from 1982-1985, had backed out at the last minute.

Except for a few minor details which include the composition of the coaching staff, Garcia said he is close to agreeing to terms with the school.

“I just came out of a meeting (with school officials) and I signed the job offer sheet,” Garcia confirmed to the Inquirer yesterday just a few hours after Letran guard Kevin Alas had tweeted that the Rain or Shine assistant coach had gotten the job.
