Global tests surprise q’finalist Ceres today

BACOLOD-BASED side Ceres looks to continue its surprising run in the PFF Smart Club Championship when it takes on United Football League titlist Global today in the quarterfinals at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The only remaining non-UFL side standing in the competition, Ceres will be seeking a follow-up of its stunning upset of UFL Cup champion Stallion in the 4 p.m. clash.

“We are trying to prove that there are good teams outside the UFL,” said Ceres coach Freddie Lazarito. “We have nothing to lose. Our players are very motivated.”

New Global coach Brian Reid, whose squad advanced to the last eight after a 2-1 win over Nomads,  is wary of Ceres.

“We cant afford to slack off or we will be in trouble,” Reid said.
Kaya and Loyola Meralco rekindle their rivalry in the 6:30 p.m. duel for a semifinal berth.

The winner will play the team that prevails in the Ceres-Global clash in next weekend’s semis.
