MANILA, Philippines—National University never let up as it kept University of the Philippines in a slump, 25-19, 25-18, 25-18, Wednesday in the UAAP Season 75 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan city.
Dindin Santiago pumped in 16 points to lead the Bulldogs to a much-needed win, their fifth in nine games.
“Sabi ni Coach ’wag kami magre-relax, ’wag namin maliitin yung kalaban namin. Dapat mataas pa din laro naming, mahina man or malakas,” said the six-foot-one Santiago, who transferred to NU after playing her rookie year with University of Santo Tomas.
With the Lady Maroons still in it in the third set, the Lady Bulldogs made the most out its size advantage with Santiago leading the way.
Santiago had a block that gave NU a 6-point lead, 20-14, in the third set. Aiko Urdas came up with the game-clinching point on a block.
Myla Pablo added 12 points while Urdas scored three of her 7 points on blocks.
NU remained outside the playoff picture behind UST and Adamson, who take up the third and fourth place with identical 5-3 records.
The Lady Maroons have now lost eighth consecutive games since winning their first match against University of the East.
