MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo remained atop the heap in UAAP season 75 men’s football even as Far Eastern University and University of the Philippines tightened their grip on spots in the top four with separate wins Sunday.
The Blue Booters pinned another loss on University of the East, scoring quick goals in the first half for a 2-0 victory.
Meanwhile, Deo Segunial found the back of the net in the 52nd minute and UP survived with a crucial 1-0 win over University of Santo Tomas which puts them well ahead.
The defending champion Maroons (5-3-1, win-loss-draw) gained a six-point lead over the fifth place Golden Booters (3-6-1).
FEU also nipped National University, 1-0, in the other match at the football fields inside the Ateneo Campus in Quezon City.
The league’s top scorer Jesus Melliza helped the Tamaraw Booters rise to the second spot, netting his 17th goal of the season in the 37th minute.
Ateneo boasts of 23 points (7-0-2, win-loss draw), but FEU remained a close second with 21 points (7-2-0).
