Romero on target as Whites thwart Blues

MIKEE Romero came out with his best performance yet to power the White Team past the Blue Team, 9-7, in the high-goal match of the First Royale Salute President’s Polo Cup over the weekend at Alabang Country Club.

Romero, the businessman-sportsman who got hooked on the sport just a few years ago, knocked in a game-high four goals to lead the Whites against the Blues, skippered by Southeast Asian Games veteran Antonio Veloso.

Filipino-American pro player Anthony Garcia and Hollywood producer Lope Juban Jr. also fired two goals each for the Whites, while Briton Jake Gordon helped thwart the Blues’ fightback.

Argentinian banker Patrick Furlong scored three goals to lead the Blues who also leaned on Adrian Garcia and Santiago Juban.

Romero, the president-CEO of Harbour Centre, has been on a roll since last year when he powered the Globalport Team to victories in the United States Polo Association (USPA) Championship Cups in St. Louis, Missouri, and Chicago.

In the recent Past Presidents Cup at Manila Polo Club, Romero also fired the game-winner  to lead his team to a 3-2 win. Jasmine W. Payo
