MANILA, Philippines—University of Santo Tomas got an easier foe in University of the East out of the way, 25-14, 25-16 and 25-23, before a tough homestretch in the UAAP season 75 women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan city.
Carmela Tunay drilled in 11 points, Maika Ortiz added 10 and Maru Banaticla had nine for the Golden Tigresses, who are trying to stay afloat until the final four.
But it doesn’t get easier for UST, with upstart squads Adamson, Far Eastern University, National University and Ateneo lined up as its opponents next.
“More on motivation (na lang ang focus). Too late to change the system, at paulit-ulit kong pinapaalala ang roles,” said head coach Ogie Mamon.
The Tigresses, at 6-4, are holding on to fourth place, behind the Lady Falcons (7-3) and ahead of the Lady Bulldogs (5-5).
The Lady Warriors reeled to their 10th setback sans a victory this season and weren’t really a threat until late in the third set.
Sarina Bulan led UE with 11 attacks and two aces for 13 points, and Lueseht Dawis had 10 points.
