Reyes said the Smart Gilas Pilipinas squad which will compete in the 27th Fiba-Asia Championship to be held here in August must have the “speed and outside shooting” to offset its lack of size.
“It must be versatile. It must be a team that must have role players. Magbubuo tayo ng team hindi tayo magbubuo ng collection of superstars,” Reyes added.
Outside naturalized Filipino Marcus Douthit, the Philippines won’t really have the size and length to match up with Asian powers Iran, China, South Korea and even Lebanon.
“Primarily, we’ll have a quick team kasi kung maliit ka na mabagal ka pa, sa kangkungan ka pupulutin,” said Reyes.
