UP gains final 4 berth with win over UE, eliminates UST in UAAP men’s football

MANILA, Philippines — Reigning titlist University of the Philippines blanked University of the East 2-0 and secured a seat in the final four of UAAP season 75 men’s football on Thursday morning.

The prolific striker Jinggoy Valmayor accounted for all of the Maroons’ goal, scoring in the 25th minute before doubling the lead before halftime.

While UP’s entry completes the final four cast, it also drove University of Santo Tomas out of the quarterfinals’ picture.

The Golden Booters (3-7-1 win-loss-draw, 10 points) are behind the Maroons, who rose to third with the win, by nine points.

Ateneo, which battles second-running Far Eastern University (21 points) at 1 p.m. at the football fields inside its campus, remains at the number one spot with 23 points.

The Red Warriors, meanwhile, retained the league’s worst record with 0-10-1 for just a point.
