Monitoring body backing rowers

MANILA—Asian Games monitoring chief Jeff Tamayo Wednesday said they are ready to present the outcome of the dragonboat time trial to the Philippine Olympic Committee executive committee which will decide whether the teams get the greenlight to Guangzhou.

Tamayo said he will just “present the facts” to the exe-com on Friday, including the times submitted by the men’s and women’s squads which underwent trials at the La Mesa Dam reservoir last Monday.

Off hand, Tamayo, the soft tennis chief, said the teams have strong chances in the 250-meter and 500-meter events in the Asian Games.

He, however, noted that the teams’ clocking in the 1,000m is not acceptable because there is no such  event in Guangzhou.

The  teams had to undergo the trial because of  changes in their lineup after setting  records in the Worlds and Asian championships.

The men’s team timed 41.88 seconds, beating the 47.74 seconds qualifying time in the 200m. The Women’s team clocked 46.85 seconds to make the 49.07 cut.
