MANILA, Philippines — University of the Philippines stunned and dealt Ateneo its first loss of the season with an 8-6 win Friday in the UAAP Season 75 baseball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
But despite seeing its seven-game win streak snapped, the Blue Eagles are still on pace to barge into the finals — although to blew a chance to move closer into clinching the twice-to-beat edge.
Defending champion National University, meanwhile, exacted revenge and clipped University of Santo Tomas, 12-7, to seize solo hold of second place with a 6-2 record.
The Growling Tiger batters, who beat the Bulldogs in the first round, dropped to third place at 5-3.
La Salle, on the other hand, dumped Adamson, 14-0, to forge a tie in fourth place with an improved 3-5 card.
