LSGH guns for twin Energen MYBall crowns

LA SALLE Green Hills shoots for a double championship in the Energen Mini-Youth Ball Metro Invitationals today at LSGH gym.

The Greenies, who swept the elimination round, vie for a second straight title against National University in the Contender division (12-14 age group) title game at 10:20 a.m.

Also unbeaten in the Mini division (9-11 age group), the Greenies hope to wrest the crown from defending champion Ateneo-A in the first finals match at 8:30 a.m.

The Greenies earned outright title berths and only need to win once in the finals after claiming the twice-to-beat incentive for completing a 7-0 sweep in both divisions.

But the Blue Eaglets and the Bullpups, both ranked third, hope to pull off another upset after climbing out of the stepladder semifinals where they both stunned the No. 2 seeds.

The Blue Eaglets outlasted Xavier School, 47-39, after downing Ateneo-B, 57-46, in the Mini, while the Bullpups stunned No. 2-ranked Lourdes School-Mandaluyong, 82-74, and Ateneo-A, 75-66, in the Contender semifinals.

Meanwhile, the Energen MYBall Father and Son 2Ball Shootout also gets going today with PBA player Dondon Hontiveros and son Isaiah Miguel Blanco of Don Bosco Technical College among the finalists in the Mini division.

Other father-and-son pairs vying for the honor are Gil and Jonas Salandanan of La Salle Green Hills and Enril and Ezio Magdato of Ateneo in the Mini games and the Contender tandems of Wilson and Wilson Joseph of NU and LSGH’s Alvin and Andre Magpantay and JR and Joshua Marcos.
