M’garito sure of KO victory Mexican places bet on himself
ANTONIO MARGARITO is so confident of stopping Manny Pacquiao on Nov. 13 that the Mexican known as the Tijuana Tornado is betting on his victory.
Margarito has wagered his Mercedes for the Jeep of his uncle-translator Fernando Ramirez.
In an even bolder move, Margarito told the owner of Orange County clothing company Affliction that he would be wearing the apparel anew, no strings attached, in his WBC super welterweight title showdown with Pacquiao at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
According to the Los Angeles Times’ Lance Pugmire, Affliction used to sponsor Margarito until his infamous loss to Shane Mosley last year, when a hardening substance was found in his hand wraps. The discovery led to the suspension of his boxing license.
The nothing-to-lose proposition was enough to win over Atencio, who guaranteed an undisclosed five-figure deal should Margarito beat Pacquiao.
In a related article on Philboxing, Margarito told the Mexican media: “I have what it takes to knock Pacquiao out.”
According to Margarito, he has been training hard in Oxnard, California, and that stopping the Filipino pound-for-pound king “won’t be too difficult.”
The 32-year-old Margarito also said that all he needs to do is “put the pressure on Manny and that’s it.”
Margarito believes that being the naturally bigger and stronger fighter, he “can put Pacquiao to sleep, no doubt.”
In earlier reports, Margarito predicted that he’d stop Pacquiao in the 11th round.
