Lady Archers target semis bonus vs UP

LA SALLE goes for the semifinal bonus while Ateneo aims to keep its hold of the No. 2 spot as both squads tackle lightweight foes in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament today.

Unbeaten since their opening-day loss, the Lady Archers shoot for win No. 11 and the twice-to-beat semifinal advantage versus University of the Philippines at 3:30 p.m. at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Eagles, back on the winning track after a surprise three-game skid last month, battle winless University of the East at 2 p.m.

Ateneo coach Roger Gorayeb thinks his Lady Eagles have a strong shot at staying in the top two even after a losing spell that saw them slip to 8-3, keeping idle Adamson’s (7-4) twice-to-beat hopes alive.

“The team standings are tight, but I’m confident we can keep second place,” said Gorayeb, who is leaning on Alyssa Valdez and Dzi Gervacio, who fired a season-high eight service aces in their 25-14, 25-8, 25-16 crushing of the Lady Maroons last Saturday.

The defending champion Lady Archers snapped Far Eastern University’s five-game roll, 25-17, 25-16, 25-23, last Sunday.
