UAAP: La Salle dominates UP, clinches twice-to-beat edge in women’s volley

MANILA, Philippines—League leader La Salle overpowered University of the Philippines, 25-15, 25-14, 25-13, on Wednesday in the UAAP season 75 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Spikers, who clinched the first twice-to-beat edge along with the victory, said they treated the also-ran Lady Maroons like any other opponent.

And the result was a rout.

La Salle dominated every statistical department — notching seven points off blocks and eight points from service aces while UP had none from those departments.

“Sabi ko sa mga players, walang mahina at walang malakas,” said head coach Ramil De Jesus.

“Isa lang ang respect na ibinibigay namin sa mga teams kung paano ang preparation ginagawa namin sa mahina at malakas, iisa lang,” he added.

Abigal Maraño poured a game-best 13 points, Mika Reyes added nine and Michelle Gumabao had eight for La Salle, which faces Ateneo on Saturday.

“Pwede na naming paghandaan sa Sabado kasi tapos na ito (UP vs La Salle),” said De Jesus.

Aside from 25 won points from spikes, the only other source of the Lady Maroons’ is from the Lady Spikers’ 18 errors.

Out of 35 block attempts and 43 service attempts, UP did not register even at least a point.

Jay Aliyah Ong, though, still finished in double-digits with 10 points for the Lady Maroons, who dropped with a 1-11 record.
