The Philippine Tennis Association will stage the Davis Cup Asia Oceania Group 2 semifinal round against Thailand on April 5-7 again at Plantation Bay Spa and Resort, officials said yesterday.
The Philta board, led by president Rep. Edwin Olivarez, considered the proximity between the recent tie against Syria and the next tournament plus the preparations already done by the resort in bringing the event back to Lapu-Lapu City.
“We think that Plantation is best equipped to stage the event,” said Philta vice president Randy Villanueva, adding that the 14th Tru-Flex age group championship will be held on the same Davis Cup weekend.
The Tru-Flex age-group, a Group 1 tourney for young talents across the country, has always been held in Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza and Plantation Bay general manager Efren Belarmino welcomed the chance to stage the event for a fourth time. They also hosted two Davis Cup ties in 2011 against Japan and Chinese Taipei.
The Cebuana Lhuillier-Philippines team won over Syria, 3-2, last week and moved to the next round against Thailand.
