MANILA, Philippines—Josh Urbiztondo’s stellar start so far proves to be enough to make up for Barako Bull’s injury depleted lineup.

Urbiztondo, the fiery point guard, helped the Energy Cola roll to a 2-0 record to earn the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week honor.

He averaged 20.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in Barako Bull’s wins over San Mig Coffee and GlobalPort.

“It’s such a blessing to have a 2-0 start this conference,” said Urbiztondo, who turns 29 on February 27. “I’m going to continue to contribute in every way I can to keep these wins coming.”

“He keeps pushing himself, in practice and in any game,” said coach Bong Ramos

Urbiztondo filled the stat sheet with 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists in his team’s win over the Mixers, 79-75, on opening day Friday.

He outdid himself in their next game with 24 points, five rebounds and four assists to help Barako Bull rally past GlobalPort, 98-88, in overtime, a win the put the Energy Cola up in the standings.

Even without Enrico Villanueva, Celino Cruz, Roger Yap, Sean Anthony, JC Intal and Emman Monfort it appears Barako Bull will be just fine as long as Urbiztondo’s in tow.
