Perpetual Help tries to complete a double NCAA volleyball championship as the Lady Altas shoot for the women’s crown today, just two days after the men’s squad completed a season sweep.
Bannered by Most Valuable Player Sandra delos Santos, the Lady Altas vie for a second straight title against a gutsy San Sebastian side in Game 3 of the best-of-three finals at 9:30 a.m. at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
On Monday night, the Altas completed a 14-game sweep after disposing of Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-21, 18-25, 25-21, 25-21, to bag their third straight men’s crown.
Rookie Edmar Sanchez fired 20 of his 22 points on attacks, while Jay dela Cruz added 19 kills for the Altas, who took Game 1 with a straight-set win, 25-22, 25-17, 25-16, last Saturday.
Perpetual Help coach Jason Sapin said he’s confident his Lady Altas can wrap up the series in their favor behind the consistent plays of Delos Santos and Honey Rose Tubino.
“Our advantage is the experience of our seniors,” said Sapin.
The Lady Stags, boosted by rookie standout Gretchel Soltones, scored a 26-24, 26-24, 22-25, 27-25 upset in the opener, before the Lady Altas leveled the series with a 21-25, 25-12, 28-26, 29-27 Game 2 triumph on Monday.
