Ilagan gets P680,000 from PSC

The Philippine Sports Commission has approved a P680,000 cash incentive to dragon boat head coach Nestor Ilagan, who passed away last week after falling off a dock side ledge while watching his paddlers practice along Manila Bay.

PSC executive director Guillermo Iroy said they have already submitted the reward recommendation under the commission’s incentives program even before the tragedy.

“We already submitted his name along with the others to the Pagcor,” said Iroy, referring to the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., which funds the incentives program.

The reward was for Ilagan’s feat as coach of the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation which won gold medals in the World Championships in 2007 and 2009.

The PDBF was later stricken off the Philippine Olympic Committee roster of national sports associations,  causing the PSC to withdraw its recognition to the entire team which won five golds in the 2011 Tampa Bay Worlds.
