Korean tops Canlubang golf tourney by 3 strokes

LAGUNA, Philippines—Wang Jeung-hyun closed out with a one-under-par 71 Friday and ruled the 11th Canlubang Amateur Open championship by three strokes over Jobim Carlos at Cangolf’s North course here.   Putting bitter memories of his disqualification in a tournament here last February, the 16-year-old Korean left nothing to chance, opening up with back-to-back birdies on the way to a nine-under-par 207 total over 54 holes.   After being penalized two strokes for a wrong drop on No. 8, Wang was DQ’d in the final round of the DHL Am and subsequently DQ’d after he refused to sign his scorecard.   Carlos, the first round leader who lay a stroke off Wang overnight, couldn’t get his game going and submitted a 73 for a 210 tally. Carlos was a stroke clear of a hard-finishing Dante Becierra, who matched the tournament-best 65 Wang turned in on Thursday.   Nam Seung-Hee, another Korean playing out of Eagle Ridge, fired a 71 and finished fourth with a 217 while Peter Villaber, Alexes Nallos and Sung Hwan-yoon ended tied at 218 after shooting 70, 73 and 71, respectively.   Art Arbole ballooned to a 76 and shared eighth place with Jessie Balasabas, who also made a 76, at 219, with Zanieboy Gialon, Carl Santos Ocampo and Hwang Kang Youl rounding out the Top 10 with 222 totals after submitting 79, 72 and 71.   Lovelynn Guioguio, meanwhile, ran away with the ladies crown with a two-under 70 for a 134 and a five-stroke victory over ICTSI teammates Jayvie Agojo, who also had a 70, and Andrea Unson, who fired a 69.
