MANILA, Philippines — GlobalPort banked on a strong start to dispose of Ginebra, 89-80, and score its second win Friday night in the 2013 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Batang Pier managed to maintain a safe lead from the Kings, keeping a cushion over 10 points in the final payoff period.

But coach Junel Baculi is not taking any credit away from the struggling Ginebra even in a night when GlobalPort dominated.

“Ginebra is always tough to beat, because of their neevr say die attitude but we have our own version — we never quit,” said Baculi.

Import Justin Williams had a field day with 23 points — all from inside the arch — along with just as many rebounds and eight big blocks.

Gary David added 22, helping GlobalPort stay in the lead in the third quarter where Ginebra threatend the most all game.

While the Batang Pier enjoyed a 2-1 start, the Gin Kings remained groping for form for a 0-2 card thus far.

Herbert Hill had 22 points and 19 rebounds with a couple of block shots but was bothered constantly by Japeth Aguilar all night.

Hill is reportedly on his way out with replacement import Vernon Macklin flying in here on Monday.

Star guard Mark Caguioa finished with 20 points but on just as many shot attempts.
