STALLION Sta. Lucia and Global scored contrasting victories Thursday night to stay unbeaten in the United Football League at Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
Using a strong second-half effort, Stallion overwhelmed Pasargad, 4-0, while Global barely survived Nomads, 2-1.
Kim Hyo-il struck from the penalty spot twice, while Rufo Sanchez and substitute Daniel Matsunaga also got on the score sheet for Stallion which took top spot ahead of Loyola and Global on goal difference.
Own goal
Global pulled through even without coach Brian Reid, thanks to an early strike from Izzo El Habbib and an own goal from Baffio Magasso.
Team manager Dan Palami called the shots in Reid’s absence and his players gifted him with an early goal.
El Habbib met a Jeffrey Christiaens cross with a strong header past Friso Klok in the fourth minute for his first goal of the season.
Former Global player Fidelis Nnabuife equalized for Nomads a minute before halftime before Magasso swung the lead back to the defending champions.
After a scoreless first half, Stallion’s attack clicked into high gear with Sanchez forcing a foul inside the penalty box that led to Gerald Orcullo’s second yellow card.
