FEU pins loss on still no. 1 NU in UAAP men’s volley

MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University defeated National University 25-20, 25-14, 28-30, 25-20 Sunday  at the Arena in San Juan but the Bulldogs retained the top spot in the UAAP season 75 men’s volleyball tournament.

The Tamaraws stayed on top of the Bulldogs all game, save for tough 28-30 third set defeat, to cruise to the final four on a winning high.

Though FEU and NU wound up with an identical 12-2 record at the end of eliminations, the Bulldogs — who have been at helm for the bulk of the season — finished with a superior quotient.

The defending champions leaned on Arvin Avila to bring in the points as he finished with 22 points but top scorer Karl Ian Dela Calzada still had 17 points.

A stark contrast on service winners spelled the biggest difference as the Tamaraws had 11 while the Bulldogs had none.

Peter Den Man Torres finished with 17 points for NU, and Reyson Fuentes added 12.
