UP back in UAAP men’s football finals

MANILA, Philippines — University of the Philippines is back in the finals to defend its title in UAAP men’s football.

UP clawed back from an early deficit for a 2-1 win and booted Far Eastern University out of the running for the championship in the season 75 competition Sunday.

Gabe Mendoza slotted the go-ahead goal, which settled the final score, for the Maroons Booters in extra time, after the game ended in a 1-1 standoff in regulation.

Reymark Fernandez put UP back in the game with an equalizer in the 64th minute after Jess Melliza opened the scoring for the Tamaraws in the 22nd.

The Maroons face Ateneo, which had disposed of La Salle en route to the last round, in the finals set on Thursday.
