MANILA, Philippines – Adamson closed in on its third straight crown after dispatching first-timer National University, 6-2, in the UAAP Season 75 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium Tuesday.
Pitcher Julie Marie Muyco struck out nine batters as the Lady Falcons hiked their impressive winning streak to 33 games.
“Maganda ang game at talagang nakakahanga rin ang NU, kasi despite na rookie sila, lumalaban (It was a good game. NU was impressive because despite being a rookie, they gave us a good fight),” said Adamson coach Ana Santiago, who hopes for a better effort from his team in Game 2.
Adamson, which earned a thrice-to-beat advantage after completing a 12-game sweep in the elimination round, can wrap up its 12th softball crown in Game 2 on Friday.
The Lady Bulldogs grabbed a 1-0 headstart in the first inning with Whell Gene Nietes scoring a homerun which prompted Santiago to field Muyco in for Rizza Bernardino and pitched for five and 2/3 innings to keep NU’s hitters at bay.
“Na-off ang hitting namin. Alam mo naman, kilala tayo sa pagdating sa hitting, mabuti naman at naging successful kami sa squeeze play, bunts and sa mga sacrifice fly naming,’’ Santiago said..
Adamson also drew solid play from Michelle Lentijia, who delivered three runs.
