Sharp and ruthless, defending champion Global sent a warning shot to the rest of the United Football League with a 5-1 dumping of Green Archers Globe last night to grab top spot at Emperador Stadium in Taguig.

Izzo El-Habbib struck twice, while Carli de Murga, Marvin Angeles and Patrick Reichelt were also on target as Global produced its finest display yet this season to extend its unbeaten start to three matches.

De Murga opened the scoring in the 11th minute, before El-Habbib added a thunderous free kick from 20 yards four minutes later.

Tating Pasilan gave Archers a glimmer of hope four minutes after the restart with an opportunistic strike, but El-Habbib restored order by sliding in a headed pass from Ben Starosta in the 56th minute.

FEATURED STORIES

El-Habbib’s second goal seemed to galvanize Global to turn on the style. A flowing move involving De Murga, Misagh Bahadoran and Jeff Christiaens was finished off by Reichelt at the far post on the hour mark.

Angeles, coming in for Bahadoran in the 75th minute, scored his first goal of the season: A low strike beyond the returning Patrick Deyto.
