Stockinger nears F1 dream

Inching closer to his dream of competing in Formula One, Marlon Stockinger achieved another historic feat, following his promotion to junior driver of the prestigious Lotus Formula One team.

Considered as one of the brightest young talents at Lotus, Stock-inger boosted his stock after a big victory in the 2012 GP3 Series in Monaco late last year.

The Filipino-Swiss driver joins six other bright prospects —Marco Sorensen of Denmark, Alex Fontana of Switzerland, Oscar Tunjo of Colombia, Esteban Ocon of France, Alexander Albon of Thailand, and Dorian Boccolacci of France—who will all be honed by Lotus.

A delighted Stockinger welcomed the challenge of representing Lotus.

“It’s a great feeling to be associated with such a prestigious team,” said Stockinger. “If you look back through the years as Benetton and Renault, this team knows how to win championships. So to be surrounded by that heritage is a big honor for me.”

Stockinger will be setting his sights on another international title this year as he competes in the World Series by Renault.

Apart from races, Stockinger will also be joining the Lotus F1 Team in road shows, including the one happening in Manila from May 3 to 5 where he will drive the F1 car of the team. Cedelf P.Tupas
