MANILA, Philippines — San Beda College of Alabang reasserted its superiority in the 14th NCAA-South swimming competitions at the SBCA pool in Muntinlupa.
The Sea Lions bagged the women’s, boys and girls overall championships, but it was De La Salle Lipa-Batangas which brought home the crown in the men’s division while San Beda wound up second.
Bannered by six golds and one silver medal haul of Ma. Angeli Alvarez, San Beda racked up 153 points — based on 9-7-6-5-4-3 points system awarded to the first to sixth places — in the women’s tilt followed by La Salle Lipa (120), and Don Bosco Mandaluyong (72).
Alvarez was adjudged the most outstanding performer in her division.
“Happy ako sa performance ng mga bata. Sa men’s na short kami kasi mas marami ang swimmers ng La Salle Lipa,” noted SBCA coach Dondon Roxas. “Hopefully we can come up with this strong performance again next season.”
The San Beda Alabang tankers fell 15 points behind La Salle Lipa, which had 183, in the men’s race. University of Perpetual Help-Laguna finished third with 68 points.
The Altas’ Wilson Rabino, who won four individual golds, was the MVP in the senior’s category.
Marco Danielle Callanta, meanwhile, captured four gold medals and powered the SBCA boys’ squad to the championship with a whopping 324-point finish.
La Salle Lipa came in at a distant second (118) and First Asia Institute of Technology and the Humanities of Tanauan at third (104).
Former Palaro standout Catherine Bondad had six golds to lift the girls’ squad to the title with 336 points — also way ahead of runner-up La Salle Lipa (178) and Philippine Christian University-Dasmarinas third (38).
