Alaska repulses Brgy. Ginebra; TNT takes on San Mig Coffee

AFTER shutting down Japeth Aguilar of Globalport, Ranidel De Ocampo and Talk ‘N Text eye a third straight victory, this time against San Mig Coffee. AUGUST DELA CRUZ

Things went on as they had been going thus far for Alaska and Barangay Ginebra. The Aces continued to cruise unscathed while the Kings still couldn’t buy a break.

Alaska won its fourth straight outing, slamming Barangay Ginebra, 84-69, yesterday in a PBA Commissioner’s Cup road game at Mindanao Convention Center in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

The Kings, sporting a new import un Vernon Macklin, showed a lot of spunk in battling back from an early double-digit deficit but couldn’t get past the hump, as the Aces went on a strong run midway threw the second half to sew up a 4-0 start.

Ginebra dropped to 0-4.

Meanwhile, Talk ‘N Text will not take winless San Mig Coffee lightly even as Globalport tangles with Meralco at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“Expect them to be hungry,” said TNT coach Norman Black, referring to the Mixers, the same squad that ruled this conference last season but has started on the wrong foot.

Despite bringing back Best Import Denzel Bowles into the fold, the Mixers dropped their third game in a row after Rain Or Shine pounced on their turnovers and translated them into 37 points for a 93-65 whipping on Wednesday night.

Also expected to generate interest is newly acquired Batang Pier guard Sol Mercado, who will play against the Bolts, his team for almost three seasons before Global Port team owner Mikee Romero snagged the 6-foot-1 slasher in a 10-player deal. June Navarro
