La Salle Zobel, Adamson, UST stay unbeaten
MANILA—La Salle Zobel and Adamson stayed perfect in the UAAP juniors basketball tournament while University of Santo Tomas also remained unbeaten in women’s action over the weekend at the Blue Eagle Gym.
Angelo Quinlog shot 16 points to lead six Baby Falcons in double figures as Adamson routed University of the East, 92-54, for its third straight triumph.
The Junior Archers also climbed to 3-0 as Alexander Tomas led a balanced charge over the Tiger Cubs, 74-55.
Article continues after this advertisementThree-time champion Ateneo tripped National University, 47-42, to tie its victim at 2-1. Lambert Tenorio paced the Blue Eaglets with 14 markers.
Meanwhile, the Tigresses slipped past Far Eastern University, 66-65, with Juvelyn Andaya unloading 18 points and dishing out six assists.
The defending champion Lady Falcons, leaning on Jinky Balasta, dealt the Lady Archers their first loss, 49-41, to share second at 2-1.
Article continues after this advertisementMeanwhile, Ateneo rookie Greg Slaughter bagged the Accel-316 UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week presented by Gatorade after towing the Blue Eagles to their fourth straight victory in the men’s basketball tournament.
“We’re the only team in the league with a seven-footer, so we really want to take advantage of that,” said Ateneo coach Norman Black. Slaughter averaged 16 points, 8.5 rebounds and two blocks in the Blue Eagles’ two wins last week over National University (86-62) and University of the East (73-61).
Slaughter edged Adamson’s Janus Lozada and Alex Nuyles, Far Eastern University’s Chris Exciminiano and La Salle’s Luigi Dela Paz for the weekly honor.
