MANILA—There will be no letup for the Manila Sharks as they seek a fourth straight crown in the Baseball Philippines Series 9 late this year.
The Sharks swept the Series 8 best-of-three title showdown after a 10-4 thumping of the Cebu Dolphins in Game 2 last Sunday to claim a record third straight crown.
Sharks manager Rich Cruz said the squad isn’t resting on its laurels.
“We definitely want to win again,” said Cruz in yesterday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at Shakey’s U.N. Avenue in Manila.
“Many are asking if we are still hungry for another title but the challenge will still be there.”
With other teams also beefing up their squads, Manila coach Jhoel Palanog said he also intends to strengthen their lineup to keep up with the other teams.
“We might need new players because others might retire,” Palanog said.
Cruz said they have already scouted some Filipino-Americans who could possibly be part of the team for Series 9.
“We will still be gauging how well they can play because as you can see during the Series 8, Filipinos can compete very well with the Fil-Ams,” said Cruz.
