MANILA, Philippines—Petron continued its hot streak in the 2013 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, blasting Barako Bull, 91-78, on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Colisuem.
Coming off a record-setting 60-53 win, lowest score in franchise history, last Friday — the Boosters came out firing, this time, and led by almost 20 at halftime.
Back-to-back triples from Arwind Santos and Jay Washington stretched the lead to its biggest, 66-41, in the latter part of the third.
Petron, riding on a five-game winning run to move half a game-behind league leading Alaska, got a huge lift anew from its prolific scoring import Renaldo Balkman.
“It was a total team effort led by our import,” said head coach Olsen Racela.
Balkman put up monster numbers with 33 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and four steals, saying, “I play every game like it’s my last.”
With the Boosters in foul trouble early in the fourth, the Energy trimmed the lead down to 12 on efforts by Evan Brock.
But a four-point play from Petron’s energy guy Ronald Tubid, who joined the 5000 points club after that basket, put the outcome beyond doubt, 85-68, with under 4 minutes to go.
Barako Bull dropped its second straight assignment for a 3-3 record. Brock led with 20 points while Danny Seigle added 17.
