Roxanne Resma and Katrina Orteza inched closer to a finals battle after barging into the semifinals of the premier girls’ 18-and-under singles yesterday in the 3rd Olivarez Cup at Olivarez Sports Center in Parañaque.
The top-seeded Resma dominated Angela Sunga, 6-2, 6-0, to make the next round against Nicole Amistad, who got a free ride to the semis after third seed Isabella Orteza, Katrina’s sister, didn’t show up.
Katrina, the second seed, booked a semis seat after an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Isabella Mendoza. She faces fourth seed Khim Iglupas today. In boys’ play, top seed Andrew Cano drubbed Nicolas Cano, 6-3, 6-2, to make the semis against No. 3 Betto Orendain. No. 4 Vernon Huivonhua will take on the winner of the Kyle Joseph-Jeremiah Latorre duel. Marc Anthony Reyes
