The ladies of La Salle came out strong to power the university to its first UAAP overall championship.
When the Lady Spikers captured the women’s volleyball crown last Wednesday, it capped a remarkable season for La Salle where all five championships were delivered by their women’s teams.
La Salle copped its first overall title since joining the league in 1986 by racking up 293 points, an output that unexpectedly snapped the 14-year league dominance of University of Santo Tomas.
The Lady Archers—who also reigned in taekwondo, tennis, chess and table tennis—finished with a 16-point advantage over the Tigers’ total of 277 points.
“This season was really tough and extreme,” said La Salle spiker Abigail Maraño, who shared her season Most Valuable Player plum with teammate Ara Galang. “There were so many challenges, especially in managing our studies and playing. But everything helped us grow as mature persons and players.”
UST settled for second overall with championship runs in men’s taekwondo, women’s beach volleyball, men’s chess and a sweep of the judo tournament.
Ateneo ranked third with 205 points after ruling men’s basketball, baseball, men’s football, men’s swimming and women’s badminton.
