Polo pros show wares in AirAsia Crystal Cup

FOREIGN pros beef up the three polo teams vying in the high-goal match of the first AirAsia Crystal Cup this weekend at the polo field of Alabang Country Club.

Globalport owner Mikee Romero, the tournament organizer, heads the Team Globalport crew that will include Thailand’s Ploy Bhinsaeng, Britain’s Jake Gordon and Anthony Garcia.

Argentinian pro Miguel Diaz and Thailand’s Tal Srivaddhanaprabha team up with Sonny Borromeo and Jun Juban in Team King Power, while Mexican pro Isidro Olivas reinforces the third team of Santi Juban, Jim Donovan and Adrian Garcia.

The winner of the round-robin competition, dubbed as the Globalport 900’s Sultan Cup, will be crowned Sunday.

Preceding the high-goal matches is the low-goal event today where rising stars Kimberly Lofgren and the trio of Jam, Nicole and Massu Eusebio are expected to show their wares.

The Eusebios, along with Dary Matti, hope to power the Red Team skippered by veteran Freddie Borromeo, while Swedish Lars Lofgren heads the White team of Butch Albert, Eduardo Lopez, Kimberly Lofgren and actor Diether Ocampo.

“I’m putting up this tournament in order to give the young players the exposure they have been longing for,” Romero said of the rare two-day polo festival.
