UNIVERSITY OF Baguio dethroned Lyceum of Subic Bay with a narrow 95-92 victory Saturday to claim the North-Central Luzon regional championship of the Champions League in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
Both teams actually finished the tournament with identical 2-1 records but the Baguio-based cagers captured the crown because of the winner-over-the-other rule.
The UB Cardinals, who ruled the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League, advanced to the Luzon-Metro Manila zonal phase of the PCCL, where four slots to the Sweet 16 are at stake.
Also seeing action in the Nov. 8 to 12 Luzon-MM zonals are UAAP’s National U and University of the East, NCAA’s Letran and Arellano, Naascu champion University of Manila, Issa champion Lyceum, UCAA titlist Colegio de Sta. Monica, SL-Bicol winner CCDI and the champions of the NCAA-S, UCLAAI and MMCAA.
The Cardinals trounced University of Luzon, 93-86, last Friday. Lyceum beat Northern Philippines, 102-97, and UL, 99-86.
