No bloated SEA Games delegation this time

For once, there will be no bloated Philippine delegation to the Southeast Asian Games.

With host Myanmar (Burma) cutting down the country’s medal chances by adding indigenous sports in the roster of events, Philippine Sports Commission chair Richie Garcia yesterday said only the minimum number of Filipino entries will be sent to the Dec. 11 to 22 sportsfest.

“Only a limited number will be sent,” said Garcia. “The criteria the task force will set will be very strict, to the point that it will limit our participation.”

Composed of officials from the PSC and the Philippine Olympic Committee, the task force is toying with the idea of either sending only the athletes who won gold or silver medals in the last SEA Games or limit the country’s participation to Olympic sports.
