There seems no stopping the Alberto Lim Jr. juggernaut.
The burly bundle of tennis power barrelled into the finals with a 6-1, 6-0 rout of Thai Charles Roberts yesterday to reach the boys’ singles final of the Ajay Pathak Memorial/ ITF Asia 14-under tennis championship Week 2 at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
The 13-year-old Lim, who ruled the first phase without dropping a set last week, will clash with the winner between Indians Parishit Somani and Nitin Kumar Sinha for the title.
Lim’s partnership with Jan Godfrey Seno is also in the doubles finals against Thai Vorachon Rakpuangchon and Sinha.
Lim was just two points way from wrapping up the match against Roberts when a downpour halted action at centercourt, stopping play for two hours. When play resumed, Lim quickly finished off the hapless Thai.
“It’s not finished yet, I can’t just relax,” said Lim, spearhead of back-to-back NCAA champion Letran who turned back Thai Vorachon Rakpuangchon to pocket the Week 1 title.
In girls’ semifinal play, No. 1 Himani Mor downed compatriot Sruta Kirti Gunuganti, 7-5, 7-6 (12-10), while No. 5 Mihika Yadav outlasted No. 7 Komola Umurova of Uzbekistan, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4, to set up an all-Indian title duel.
