Beermen test new import vs Singapore Slingers today

The San Miguel Beermen test their new import when they shoot for a fourth straight Asean Basketball League victory against the Singapore Slingers at Tahn Bihn Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Toting a 6-3 record, the Beermen unveil Justin Williams as their newest reinforcement in place of the injured Gabe Freeman, who still needs two more weeks to recover from an MCL strain.

The 6-foot-10 Williams is fresh from a stint with the Globalport Batang Pier in the PBA Commissioners Cup where he averaged 13 points, 18 rebounds and close to five blocks in seven games. He will join forces with Asi Taulava and Brian Williams in forming a formidable frontline for the Beermen.

“We are quite fortunate to get Williams in time for our games against Singapore and Saigon this weekend,” said SMB head coach Leo Austria, whose squad will also face the Saigon Heat on Sunday.

The Beermen-Slingers duel is part of the three-day Asean Basketball League Hoops Fest 2013, which will also feature the ABL Slam Jam that includes the slam dunk contest, a three-point shooting competition and musical performances at the Phu Tho Stadium.

Williams is entered in the slam dunk competition with Wuttipong Dasom, Moala Tautuaa, Chris Daniels and Delvin Goh. Last season’s MVP Leo Avenido will try his luck in the three-point shooting contest. Cedelf P. Tupas
