Oranza 8th in Asian ITT

FILIPINO Ronald Oranza placed eighth out of 23 riders in the individual time trial of the Asian Cycling Championship in New Delhi on Thursday.

Oranza, a mainstay of LBC Cycling Pilipinas who finished third in last month’s Ronda tour, timed 36 minutes and 59.19 seconds in the 28.4-kilometer race against the clock won by Daniil Fominyk of Kazakhstan in 34:27.85.

The 20-year-old bike mechanic from Villasis, Pangasinan, is aiming for another solid finish in Saturday’s 140 km road race for under-23 riders along with sprint specialist Rustom Lim.

“Our goal is always to win but finishing eighth out of 23 participants is really not bad,” said coach Chris Allison.

Trinh Duc Tam of Vietnam clinched second in 34:37.07 with Kim Jae-yeon of South Korea third (35:27.19). June Navarro
