ALTHOUGH scraping out a shock win over NLEX felt like “winning the championship,” Big Chill coach Robert Sison said there’s no reason yet to celebrate.
But the Superchargers hope to build on their renewed confidence when they go for a second straight victory against newcomer Hog’s Breath Cafe in the the PBA D-League Foundation Cup today at 2 p.m. at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
“Our win against NLEX boosted our confidence, but we cannot celebrate much,” Sison said after his Superchargers stunned the four-time champions, 86-77, in overtime last week. “It’s just the first game and we still have a long way to go.”
Fruitas and Cebuana Lhuillier also try to grab a piece of the early lead in their 12 noon battle, while Blackwater Sports shoots for the same goal against last conference’s runner-up Cagayan Valley at 4 p.m.
Alex Nuyles knocked in 22 points and Arvie Bringas added 19, including 11 straight in the extra period, to power the Superchargers to the opening-day upset.
“Beating NLEX is something, it’s like winning the championship,” said Sison.
“We have to come prepared against Hog’s Breath,” said Sison. “They’re coming off a loss and we know they will prepare hard and play physical against us.”
Fruitas also tries to follow up on its 81-56 rout of Jumbo Plastic where Anjo Caram fired 18 points in last week’s opener.
“I hope we could play Cebuana with the same kind of energy on both ends,” said Fruitas coach Nash Racela.
