MANILA, Philippines—Adamson University cruised to its third win with an 85-54 whipping of University of the East Thursday in the 74th UAAP Men’s basketball tournament at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Veteran guard Lester Alvarez spearheaded the Falcons’ assault with 16 points on built on four triples.
But it was more of a collective effort that carried the Falcons to a sound 3-1 record as the majority of coach Leo Austria’s squad pitched in the scoring.
The versatile swingman Alex Nuyles added 11 points.
“I told them that whatever happens, don’t look at the score. Let’s just do what were supposed to do. And they did (execute our game plan),” said Austria.
A blistering 11-0 start dictated the tone of the game, as the lead ballooned to as huge as 75-40 on a triple by Roider Cabrera with six minutes left in the game.
“I wasn’t expecting the game to be blowout, but I expected to win,” Austria added.
But it was a strong third quarter that virtually set things in stone as the Falcons outscored the Red Warriors, 27-11.
Adamson, whose only loss came from Ateneo in the opening day, pinned UE to their fifth setback in as many starts even as main man Paul Zamar scored a game-high 18 points.
