MANILA, Philippines — Whether it will be a rematch with Mexican Moises Fuentes or another challenger, Donnie “Ahas” Nietes is open to any option.
“Whatever will come to me. Whoever will want to fight me, it’s okay. No problem,” Nietes told INQUIRER.net in Filipino.
Nietes is fresh off a bruising battle against Fuentes, retaining his World Boxing Organization light flyweight crown via majority draw earlier this March.
According to Nietes, another match with Fuentes is in the pipeline, and the Filipino boxer is aiming for a convincing victory this time around.
“I have a bout either July or November. Maybe, there will be a rematch with Moises Fuentes in November,” said Nietes.
“I will try to be more ready so that I am sure of victory,” he added.
Nietes received a major award from the Philippine Sports Writers Association (PSA) last week at the Manila Hotel.
“I am happy because I was able to make my country proud,” said Nietes.
“I am also happy because I belong to a popular sport today, which is boxing. This is like a gift from heaven, this job of ours,” he added.
