TOP SEED Marinel Rudas survived a tough-fighting Khim Iglupas, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), yesterday to set up a semifinal duel with Marian Jade Capadocia in the third Cainta-Palawan Pawnshop Open tennis at Brookside Hills Tennis Club.
Rudas, the UAAP MVP for champion team La Salle, earned a chance to get back at Capadocia who beat her two weeks ago in the semifinals of the Olivarez Cup women’s singles competitions.
Capadocia downed Edilyn Balanga, 6-4, 6-4, in the other semifinal.
Second seed Clarice Patrimonio and Roxanne Resma forged the other semifinal duel. Patrimonio won by retirement over Macy Gonzales while Resma eliminated Alyssa Labay, 6-2, 6-2.
Fil-Italian Marc Reyes stole the limelight in the men’s singles with a 6-1, 6-4 upset over fourth seed Rolando Ruel Jr.
Elbert Anasta also barged into the semis by beating Mark Anthony Alcoseba, 6-3, 6-3. He will take on third seed Patrick Tierro, who scored a 4-6, 6-1, 4-0 (retired) win over Antonio Sagansay. Marc Anthony Reyes
