Highlands collars WGAP overall crown
MANILA—Tagaytay Highlands, banking on its romp at home the last time out, ran away with this year’s Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines (WGAP) overall championship, finishing with 38 points for a 10-point cushion over Aguinaldo.
The Highlanders capped their season-long romp with a runner-up finish in Class B and a third place effort in Class C at the close of the course-hopping circuit at the Sta. Elena Golf Club recently.
Sta. Elena ruled Classes A and B at home to earn a berth in the WGAP Cup.
Highlands gained eight points when it hosted the seventh leg last month with victories in Classes B and C and a runner-up effort in Class A. Aguinaldo placed second overall with 28 points while Alabang topped Class C and wound up third in Class B for third overall with a 26-point aggregate.
It was indeed an impressive campaign by the Highlanders, who served notice of their title bid by racking up six points on one win, one second and one third place finishes in the second leg at Alabang early in the season.
Virginia Bote, Rosalie Heo, Riva Galvez Tan and Hedy See led Tagaytay’s Class A team which included Emalina Flores, Len Yaptangco, Farah Imperial and Sandy Prieto-Romualdez.
The Class B squad was composed of Rosario Dimson, Margaret Tan, Josefina Bautista, Mely Leyesa, Erlinda Gamut, Veronica Veloso, Marissa Vergara, Bernadette Wong and Marlene Varua.
Catherine Borja, Patricia Tan, Jessalyn Tan, Ma. Lourdes Roxas, Rosalind Wee, Deena Mendiola, Connie Mamaril and Dionne Cu, president of Tagaytay Highlands Ladies Chapter, bannered Tagaytay’s Class C squad.
