MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang congratulated the Philippine Azkals on Friday despite losing to a superior Kuwaiti side and bowing out of contention for the World Cup finals.
“With the Azkals, even if their campaign has ended, we congratulate them on the heart and the bravery that our Philippine team showed,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said during a news briefing at the Palace.
Valte said the Philippine team showed the Filipinos’ competence in the sport of football.
“We know that this will not be the end. This may be the end of the campaign for this year but certainly we know and we have confidence that the team will bounce back,” she added.
